C.O.N.J.U.R.A.

A powerful new exploration of politics, power and image-making by Julián Barón, whose acclaimed C.E.N.S.U.R.A. established him as a distinctive critical voice in contemporary Spanish photography.

A visually charged portrait of contemporary Spanish political life, revealing a world in which politicians, citizens and events are increasingly shaped by the need to become images.

C.O.N.J.U.R.A. uses direct flash and overexposure to examine contemporary Spanish politics, burning through the carefully constructed image of power. Where once there was a single face to focus on, there is now a crowd constantly photographing itself, eager to become the next image. Political power is increasingly played out through screens, bodies, gestures and events transformed into spectacle. The book explores how power presents itself for the camera, its growing need to exist through images, and a society increasingly involved in producing and circulating them.
